Baseball roundup: Hillcrest Academy wins a pair (1)

Cardinal (7-8) 7, Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont (6-13) 1

Cardinal picked up win number seven last Friday night with a 7-1 victory over Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont.

The Comets scored a pair of runs through the first and third inning on their way to a 6-0 lead through five and a half innings.

Cayden Courtney, Drake Durflinger, Braden Ballard, Cody Birlson and Kazin Miller all had two hits. Birlson led with two RBIs.

Quinn Snyder pitched 6.1 innings, giving up just four hits, one run with five strikeouts.

Mid-Prairie (12-6) 12, St. Albert (7-12) 3

Mid-Prairie was down 1-0 after the first inning against St. Albert on Friday, but the Golden Hawks blitzed the Falcons the rest of the way out.

The Golden Hawks scored six runs in the second and added eight more between the fourth and seven innings.

Brady Weber led Mid-Prairie with three hits and an RBI. Bowen Burmeister, Landry Gingerich, Joe Hall and Brooks Weber each had two hits.

Burmeister, Gingerich and Brooks Weber each had three RBIs as well.

Carson Pence, Kurt Schneider and Conner Wiles all pitched, giving up eight hits, two runs (two earned) and one strikeout.

Keota (6-8) 7, Iowa Valley (8-6) 6

Keota edged Iowa Valley in a back and forth affair on Friday night.

The Eagles and Tigers were tied at 6-6 through five and a half innings, but the Eagles brought one run home in the bottom of the inning to win it.

Evan Vittetoe and Aiden McGuire each had three hits and one RBI. Brennan McGuire ended with a team high three RBIs.

Cole Kindred pitched six inning for Keota, giving up 10 hits, six runs (six earned) and five strikeout.

Highland (7-9) 3, Pekin (5-6) 2

A three-run fifth inning was enough for Highland to get past Pekin on Thursday.

The Panthers led 2-0 heading into the fifth inning, but Highland’s trio of runs turned the game on its head.

For Highland, Landon Roling had two hits and an RBI. Garrett Beeson had a hit an two RBIs.

Colten Sypherd pitched a complete game, giving up four hits, two runs (one earned) with seven strikeouts.

Pekin was paced by Henry Adam and Alijah Brock each had two hits. Brock also had an RBI.

Nolan Glick threw seven innings, giving up five hits, three runs (three earned) and 13 strikeouts.

Hillcrest Academy (9-2) 12, English Valleys (0-11)

Hillcrest Academy dominated English Valleys on Saturday scored runs in each of the first five innings on its way to win number nine.

Rowan Miller and Bryce Bailey each had two hits for the Ravens. Bailey also had three RBIs.

Liam Schrock pitched five innings, giving up two hits, two runs (two earned) and seven RBIs.

Hillcrest Academy (10-2) 10, Keokuk (3-7) 9

Keokuk led 6-0 after the first inning on Saturday, but Hillcrest Academy stormed all the way back to take a 10-6 lead after five innings.

The Chiefs nearly completed a comeback of their own, scoring three in the top of the seventh, but the Ravens were able to hang on.

Liam Schrock led the Ravens with three hits and three RBIs.

Lawson Schrock pitched 6.1 innings, giving up six hits, seven runs (seven earned) and three strikeouts.

Winfield-Mt. Union (5-6) 7, Lone Tree (4-8) 5

Winfield-Mt. Union was able to stave off a late push from Lone Tree to win the second of a doubleheader on Friday night.

Heading into the seventh inning between the two teams, WMU held a 7-0 lead. Lone Tree didn’t go down easy though, scoring four runs before WMU was able to put it away.

Tyson Kaalberg finished with three hits and two RBIs for WMU. Cole Milks followed with two hits and three RBIs.

Trevor Phillips and Tyson Kaalberg gave up a combined two hits, five runs (three earned) and 12 strikeouts.

Lone Tree (4-7) 3, Winfield-Mt. Union (4-6) 2

Lone Tree scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh on Friday night to take the first of two games against WMU on Friday.

Riley Kaalberg led the Wolves with two hits and one RBI.

Burlington Notre Dame (17-1) 8, Van Buren County (3-10) 3

Van Buren County gave Notre Dame everything it could last Friday night, but the top rated Nikes took the victory 8-3.

Aidan McEntee finished with a team high two hits and two RBIs in the loss for Van Buren County. Isaiah Meek and Kinnick Millard had one hit with Meek tallying one RBI as well.

Mediapolis (11-4) 12, New London (4-6) 0

New London suffered a shutout loss to Mediapolis on Friday, 12-0.

The two teams were tied at 0-0 after one inning, but the Bulldogs scored seven in the second, four in the third and one more in the fourth to put the game away.
