Barcelona is an incredible foodie city and it can be overwhelming to decide which eats to add to your list. Here are 12 of my favorite restaurants, cafes, and bars that I got to check out on my recent visit to Barcelona, Spain.
If you’re looking for a place to stay in Barcelona, check out wine-themed hotel Hotel Praktik Vinoteca. I spent 4 nights there and would definitely recommend it. It’s stylish, clean, budget-friendly, and located in the upscale Eixample neighborhood. It even came with a welcome glass of wine! Brugarol
If there’s one Barcelona recommendation you take from this post, it should be to go to Brugarol for their tasting menu! Nestled in Barcelona’s Gothic Quarter, this hidden gem serves up farm-to-table tapas with a Japanese twist. Brugarol is a lean operation with only one server and two chefs at lunch, but they were super friendly and welcoming. If you can, try to get a spot at the kitchen bar so you can watch the chefs do their magic!
Our 7-course tasting menu included manchego cheese and anchovy “nigiri”; potato and salmon crunchy roll; brugarol ecological tomato; white truffle flan; pan grilled calamari and sushi rice; 5 spice beef brisket; and miso caramel mousse for dessert. And at 35 euros, it is a STEAL. I also highly recommend trying their house-made rosé, which pairs perfectly with the tasting menu. It’s a small restaurant, so be sure to make a reservation!

Brunch & Cake
Can you say brunch goals?? With multiple locations around Barcelona, stopping for brunch at Brunch & Cake during your time in Barcelona is a no-brainer. The decor is super cute and all of their food is so aesthetic and creative. I had such a hard time deciding what to order because everything looked so incredible! The menu is also very accommodating for those with dietary restrictions.
Brunch & Cake is very popular so expect a line-up. However, I found the servers were efficient and organized at seating customers, and we waited only 10-15 minutes at 10am for a table on the patio.

Cerveseria Catalana / Vinitus / Ciudad Condal
If you’re looking for an incredible tapas restaurant for dinner in Barcelona, look no further! Cerveseria Catalana, Vinitus, and Ciudad Condal are run by the same restaurant group and all offer an incredible tapas menu that changes daily. I don’t know if I should be embarrassed to say that I dined at all three during my trip to Barcelona, but they really are that good!
There will likely be a long wait for all three any night of the week, but I promise it’s worth the wait. Of the three, Vinitus probably had the shortest wait time when we went. Don’t leave without ordering the bread pudding—you’ll thank me later.

Hotel Colon – Terrassa Panoràmica
If you love rooftop bars with amazing views, make sure to check out Terrassa Panoràmica at Hotel Colon. Hotel Colon offers a front-row view overlooking Barcelona Cathedral—perfect to enjoy with a glass of cava!

Nomad Coffee Lab
To all the coffee lovers out there, Nomad Coffee Lab needs to be on your list! Nomad Coffee Lab, located in El Born, has an impressive range of coffees on offer. Honestly, I was kind of overwhelmed at first, but luckily the baristas were very friendly and helped me pick out a blend that I loved.

La Tasqueta de Blai
La Tasqueta de Blai is basically heaven for cheap and delicious pintxos, starting at just 1 euro each! You can freely pick out as many as you’d like, and at the end of the meal, the servers will count the number and type of toothpicks on your plate to tally your bill. The more basic pintxos with the plain toothpicks are 1 euro each, and the pintxos with the red toothpicks are 1.80 euros each. We arrived at La Tasqueta de Blai shortly after opening and were able to get a seat at the bar right away, however the restaurant filled up quickly.

El Nacional
A 19th-century factory turned multi-zone food hall, El Nacional is worth a visit during your time in Barcelona, if even just to admire the beautiful interior. El Nacional includes a wine bar, oyster bar, beer bar, co*cktail bar, along with 4 restaurants. We had lunch at La Taperia—if you go, be sure to try some of the “verbally-announced” tapas!

Bistrot Levante
A dreamy, light-filled cafe located in the Gothic Quarter, Bistrot Levante serves up delicious Middle Eastern fare. It’s a great pick for brunch or dinner. Make sure you try the sangria!

Cafe Cometa
Despite the misleading map of Denmark on the wall, Cafe Cometa is indeed located in Barcelona—Sant Antoni, just outside El Raval, to be exact. It’s a perfect spot to sip on a latte and soak in the hipster vibes. We stopped by here while waiting for La Tasqueta de Blai to open, which is located just a few blocks away.

Irati Taverna Basca
Another awesome pintxos bar located in the Gothic Quarter, Irati Taverna Basca serves Basque-style tapas (pintxos) and was our first meal in Barcelona! Like at La Tasqueta de Blai discussed above, the servers at Irati Taverna Basca will count up your toothpicks at the end of the meal. Wash it down with a glass of cava!
