The BEST Keto Tacos (10 minute recipe!) - The Big Man's World ® (1)

If I can have dinner whipped up and on the table in less than ten minutes, I’m a happy camper.

Since starting a keto diet, I’ve been fortunate to have a list of dinner ideas that are easy, delicious, and require barely any prep. However, having a family where most members don’t follow the same diet can be a little tricky.

Fortunately, we have a plethora of foods that suit all our taste buds. These include pizza, mac and cheese, and my favorite tacos.

Are tacos allowed on a keto diet?

Thanks to keto tortillas and keto taco shells, beef tacos ARE allowed on a keto diet. Add a homemade spice mix and you can enjoy tacos on any diet, keto included.

Why this keto taco recipe will be a weeknight dinner staple-

  • 10 minutes. From prep to plate, this entire recipe takes just ten minutes.
  • Easy to make ahead. This is the meal you can prep ahead and freeze leftovers. Also, like a good chili or stew, it tastes better after it sits for a day or two.
  • Almost zero carbs. When made correctly, this dish has barely any carbs!

What I love about this dish is just how much it tastes like actual tacos. People assume that just because it’s lower in carbs, it must sacrifice the flavor. This is not the case, and even my non-keto friends love it. Serve it with extra guacamole and a hefty dose of salsa, it’s the epitome of comfort food.

How do you make keto tacos?

While I typically make homemade taco meat, you can also make it from scratch below.

The Ingredients.

  • Ground beef– Learn ground beef is preferred, as it doesn’t yield excess fat. If you use ground beef with higher amounts of fat, drain the excess liquid before adding the taco seasoning and water.
  • Oil– Vegetable oil or any oil that has a high smoke point when cooking.
  • Taco seasoning and water- Skip the sugar laden store bought ones and use a homemade taco seasoning.
  • Taco fillings– Lettuce, tomato, shredded cheese, salsa, and guacamole.
  • Tortillas or taco shells– I enjoy using keto tortillas or keto taco shells. You can also use cauliflower tortillas.

The Instructions.

In a large skillet, add the oil and place it over medium heat. Once hot, add the ground beef and break it apart using a rubber spatula. Let it cook for 4-5 minutes, or until no longer pink. Add the taco seasoning and water and stir until combined, before removing it from the heat.

Now, assemble the tacos. Fill low carb tortillas or cheese taco shells with the meat taco filling and your favorite taco fillings, then serve immediately.

Flavor variations

  • Ground meat– Ground turkey, ground chicken, or even ground pork are fantastic options.
  • Seafood– Grilled shrimp, grilled fish (like Mahi Mahi) and salmon.
  • Vegetable fillings– Grilled onions, peppers, and even eggplant.
  • Spices– For a spicier kick, add some cayenne pepper or some smoked paprika.

Storing, freezing, and reheating tips

  • To store: leftovers can be stored in the refrigerator, covered, for up to five days.
  • To freeze: Place the cooled taco meat into an airtight container and store it in the freezer for up to 6 months.
  • Reheating: Microwave for 30-40 second spurts or stovetop until warm.
